Jim and Nerissa, tree planting ceremony

We planted a tree in honor of Jim and Nerissa and their boys yesterday. And we goofed around.

All the cohousing neighbors make me feel warm and fuzzy inside, but no one else made me feel like part of a family the way these people did. They were the first to recognize we needed to get to know people individually, and not just as part of a group collective. They invited themselves over, asked for help, told stories, helped us, scolded our boy when he needed it, and played with him when he needed it. We've laughed, cried, injured each other, recovered, and just generally bonded in a way that feels sort of rare. Perhaps with this example in my heart, it needn't be.

They're moving back to New York. We're really going to miss them.
