Katrina

A strong storm bearing down on a population center caught unprepared and unaware would be a true human catastrophe.

God,
Thank you for making us clever enough to invent weather monitoring satellites. Thank you for weather forecasters. Thank you especially for the courageous actions and sacrifices of our public servants, as they work to provide such security as they can, to protect human life, and to provide refuge for those who have nowhere to escape to.

God,
Help all those who will return from their communal sheltering places to find their belongings destroyed. May they be blessed to recount what the storm has brought them, rather than dwell on what it has taken away.

God,
Natural disasters like this remind us to appreciate each other while we are in the world together. I beg you, bring comfort to those who losed loved ones because of this storm. Welcome those who leave us into your arms-- their race is done, may they enjoy their eternal life with you.

God,
Keep me ever mindful of your Grace and Action in the world, even in the face of Nature's fury.

Amen.
