There's a great project on alameda point, a cob amphitheater. It's inspired by the Portlanders who started a program called City Repair, putting city enhancement in the hands of residents- they did murals on busy intersections to slow traffic down! The Alameda Point project is a bit different, building a space in the community garden for the community to share.
It's a fun space, in the community garden. The amphitheater is going to be a space to have neighborhood get togethers and performances, and also a space to study, meditate- and commemorate the locals who have died or moved.
The most appealing thing about the project is the building material- cob! Cob is essentially clay, and cob structures are flowing, freeform, mud sculptures! I hope to live in a cob house, and a bit of hands on experience will be fun!
